Wind Vanes on the North Fork

There are many unique winds vanes on the North Fork, most are atop church steeples that were erected many years ago.  Of those represented four are over two hundred years old and and two of those are from before our country's first Independence Day.  They look handmade to me, though I can't be sure.  I shot these from several hundred feet away on maximum zoom, hence, some grainyness.  I'm linking this post to Sky Watch as one can't look at a vane without seeing the canvas on which it appears.

Sea Gull is not part of the original design.

There's no reason why you can't have fun on the beach in the winter!

these are lovely - how did you find out they were so old? Goes to show that looking towards the stars is always worth while!

And sunny beaches at anytime of the year always = fun! xo

I vote for the clipper (?) ship, the one with all its glorious sails. Great idea collecting these shots.

Very nice;
your last pic echoes one I'm posting on Sunday. See you there?

What a variety of weather vanes; nice collection! I agree with Evan; the clipper ship is my favorite weather vane.

How delightful the photograph of the little girl flying a kite.

Winter time on the beach is wonderful, I always find it so freeing to have the wind rushing through my hair, washing away the worries of the day....

The weather vanes are wonderful, I really like the Tall Ship. The best photo however is the last, that looks like fun.

I always liked wind vanes. Nice to know their proper name, I always called them weather vanes.
& I love how the light catches the middle photos - so golden.
