Northville Beach, Riverhead

Last week during one of our exploratory drives we came upon Northville Beach on the Shore of Long Island Sound between Hallocks Pond and Jacobs Point.  Pier Avenue runs straight to Luce Landing from Rt. 48, Sound Avenue, ending at water's edge.  It was deserted being the last week of the year and quite cold but beautiful in the light of the lowering golden sun, the daylight slightly longer than the day before as the shadows lengthened.

With these photos I bid you a Happy and Peaceful New Year.

I love the empty serenity of these shots. The stones are great, especially the pure white ones--I remember gathering some from the island one time.

All these are really very succesful photos, Mark. Is this a hobby for you or you're a professional photographer, journalist etc.?

Very strange.. I didn't delete a comment and do not know what comment was deleted. Thank you, Sihirli... I am a hobby photographer, not even SLR yet. Maybe one day.

truly stunning photos that really catch my breath. Usually during New Year, it's very noisy and the surroundings are really dirty but the scenery is so calm and very relaxing.

Hello and thank you! It brings me great comfort to visit your blog and see these amazing pictures of the North Fork. I grew up there, but now live in Tennessee. You have captured many of my mental pictures of this is beloved place so well! :)
