North Fork Herons

These birds were all photographed in the early to midmorning and at considerable distance and with out a tripod which could explain why the shots are so grainy. Still, I wanted to share them. The Night Heron below was my first sighting of the species.

The Black-crowned Night Heron, sometimes referred to as Black Capped Night Heron. Click to enlarge, note the beautiful orange eye.

The Great White Egret sometimes referred to as Great White Heron.

Beautiful shots of the varieties of heron. I've only seen the great blue.

Such great photos of beautiful birds! I enlarged all of them. The first one I find the most beautiful, with its orange eyes. The last one I find a bit funny :) Have a nice evening! :)

I love that great white egret. In the last few years the smaller egret has started to visit UK and is, I believe, now breeding in the south of the country - I do hope the great one visits us soon. Don't apologise for the photos - they are very good indeed.

You're right, Mark, they are grainy. Did you end up cropping them quite severely? A tripod would let you shoot at a lower ISO, and there seems to be ample light, but then bird movements might become a problem. By the way, beautiful cropping.

Yes, lots of cropping to bring the subjects closer. I think 75 feet was the closest I got on any of theses shots, most were more than, to twice that.

Wonderful shots of wonderful birds!

Our Hawaii blue herons also have that amazing, penetrating orange eye! Such fire & determination!

Aloha, Friend!

WONDERFUL captures of the various kinds of heron! I have photographed a few great blue herons but never close enough to my taste. I wish I could get as close as you!

I've missed your posts, by the way. It had been about 2 weeks since your last post!

Linda, it's so very nice of you to say so. I've been recovering from a bit of surgery and haven't felt well enough to do anything. I'm getting better every day now!
